Biscuit Mix Soft Pretzels

About the Recipe

These pretzels are soft and chewy and make a perfect snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups Compassionate Kitchen Biscuit Mix

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 tbsp agave nectar

  • 2/3 cup water

  • 2 tbsp baking soda dissolved in 6 cups water

Preparation

Step 1

Pre-heat oven to 450. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.


Step 2

In a small bowl or measuring cup, whisk together olive oil, 2/3 cup water, and agave nectar.


Step 3

Add Compassionate Kitchen Biscuit Mix to a medium bowl. Slowly incorprate liquids into the biscuit mix and mix until a soft dough is formed.


Step 4

Place dough on floured surface and knead for a few minutes until dough is smooth and elastic.


Step 5

In a medium pan, dissolve baking soda in 6 cups of water and bring to a simmer.


Step 6

Divide dough into balls about the size of a lemon (a little bigger than a golf ball).


Step 7

Roll out each dough ball into a rope about 20 inches long and about as thick as a AA battery.


Step 8

To form pretzel shape:

  1. Using both hands, grab each end of the dough rope and loop towards the middle as if you're making a heart shape.

  2. Wrap the ends around eachother then place on the middle of the dough rope about 1 inch apart.

*It make take a few times to get it right :); don't worry if they don't look like pretzels, they'll still taste amazing! If it doesn't come out the way you want it, just roll the rope back up into a ball and start again. You can also just twist the rope around itself and make pretzel twists instead of the traditional pretzel shape - or really any shape you want!


Step 8

Carefully place pretzel (one at a time) into the simmering water bath and leave in for 30 - 45 seconds.


Step 9

With a slotted spoon, remove pretzel from the bath, let drip dry for a moment, then place on parchment lined baking sheet.

*Repeat steps 8 and 9 for all pretzels.


Step 10

Add toppings of choice such as rock salt or cinnamon and sugar.


Step 11

Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes or untl tops are golden brown.
